Frequently Asked Questions

What inks do you use, and does it make any difference?
We use Epson's eight colour advanced printing technology together with their 75 year guaranteed Ultrachrome inks to print your photo onto canvas or other photographic media. This is the finest print technology available today, and is used by artists and photographers in fine art reproduction. The process is known as Giclée printing. Colour quality is superior when compared to other standard four colour print processes.

What is UV Protection and why do I want it?
All ink will fade over a period of time due to the ultra-violet ageing process inherent in natural light. With the use of Epson ultrachrome ink to print your photo on canvas, Epson guarantee light fastness for 75 years depending on display conditions. On our Premium range, we further apply a specially formulated Giclée varnish to give additional protection against abrasion and excess moisture. Your canvas is perfectly okay without the varnish, but some customers prefer to have the additional protection.

What about the canvas - is it inferior in any way?
Absolutely not!! We only use the best materials available, and that includes the canvas we print on. Both our Standard and Premium ranges use a high quality canvas specially prepared for stretching and treated to accept ultrachrome ink, dries instantly, does not crack, and is waterproof. The Premium range uses canvas which is 100% heavy duty cotton.

What Is A Giclée Print?
Giclée is a French word and means "the spraying of paint". A term used today, to refer to a unique printing technology. Giclée prints are known to be used by Museums to display works of art, normally kept in the museums basement vaults. A Giclée Print is simply the closest duplication of an original artwork that is humanly, mechanically, or technically possible. At first, in order to create the highest quality edition possible, the original artwork is transferred to a high resolution digital file in a digital scanner. The inks used in this process are especially formulated for fine art printing offering a wide gamut and a high UV-resistance. The subtleties and nuances of an original artwork are captured by the preciseness of the printer along with the depth of the color range. MUSEUM QUALITY means 70 years light-fastness under museum archival conditions. Independent third-party tests have provided life time estimates of 100 years for pigment-based inks.Unlike other reproduction methods such as lithography or four-color printing, each Giclée' print is individually sent to the ink jet printer. This gives each print personal attention to the quality . The resolution and color can be brilliant and most often will be better than lithographs.

Do you make additional charges to those shown on your advertised prices?
NO. The price is see is the price you pay. We do not charge you extra regardless of the amount of time we spend on each photo or picture. This means that photograph enlargement, removal of red eye and date stamps, picture restoration, pop art preparation, colour correction, artistic filtering and any other technique we use are all available to you free of charge.

What's the best way to care for my canvas print?
Once it is framed your canvas print should be treated as you would any piece of fine art. Do not position where it will be near direct sunlight. Do not try to clean with water, glass cleaner, or any other liquids. Use a soft dust brush.

What is a gallery wrapped canvas?
A gallery wrapped canvas refers to the finish of you photo by how it is stretched. The picture carries over the edge of the stretchers and is stapled on the reverse. Unless you ask us not to, we gallery wrap all photos by printing to the edge of the canvas and wrapping it around the sides of the stretcher bars where it is then stapled on the reverse out of sight. This is the preferred finish of most, as it does not require further framing, and comes with fixings, ready for you to hang. This means that your pictures actual size will be slightly smaller from the front because the edge of your photo will end up on the edge and not on the front.

How can I send you my photograph?
Digital photos are easily uploaded using our online ordering process. You can either use the upload service or alternatively send the images to us as attachments in an email. Alternatively you can send your photos, prints, artwork or pictures by post. In this case they should be carefully sandwiched between stiff cardboard and ideally placed inside a polythene bag to keep it dry whilst in transit. Bubble envelopes work well for this. Once we have received your photos, we will keep them safe and return them with your order.

What photos can I enlarge?
Any photographs can be uploaded for enlargement. Remember the larger and sharper the picture, the higher the final quality will be. The enlargement process will also enlarge any defects in the original photo, but don't worry because in most cases we can help reduce the effect of any noise, distortion or graininess.

I'm not sure about the photo I have, can I send it anyway?
Absolutely! This is always our advice to customers. If in doubt send it anyway. That way we can see your picture on screen and advise you of the suitability of your photo for printing on canvas and we may make other suggestions or possibilities that you haven't yet considered.

I need my picture quickly, how long do you take to print a photo?
No worries here. We are proud of our quick turn around times. We know that for many of our clients, time is of the essence, it may be for a birthday present, a wedding anniversary, or other special occasion that means you've got to have it by a certain time. In most cases we process and dispatch all orders within seven days, but you can also request to fast trak your order for a quick turnaround ranging from 24 to 72 hours to despatch.

How can I pay you?
The simplest way to pay for your photo on canvas is by credit card through our online ordering process. Alternatively you can send us a cheque made payable to Largerpix for the amount payable.
